Founding of ECS

In 1996, Eastwood Christian School opened its doors to 34 students including eight upper school students and one upper school faculty member. Founding board members were Beth Beno, Sheila Graves, Ed Knox, Dick Madison, John Martin, Bob Maruna, Allen McDaniel, and Priscilla Stewart. The founders met, visited classical Christian schools in the area, and prayerfully developed the vision for what would become ECS.

The founding board was committed to providing a Christ centered, highly academic, character driven atmosphere where students, teachers, and staff would thrive in small classroom settings. They wanted to see students develop a biblical worldview and cultivate a lifelong love of learning with the goal of producing men and women who would bring glory to God. Since that first day of school, Eastwood's facilities and student body have expanded and grown as we now celebrate more than twenty years of providing college-preparatory, Christian, classical education to hundreds of students with 300 ECS graduates as of 2022. These students have matriculated to over 35 colleges and universities.

Currently, the Eastwood student body numbers approximately 250 students, taught by more than 35 faculty members, and the campus includes an upper school educational building which was added to the existing facilities in 2007. Most upper school students are involved in one or more of Eastwood’s team sports: volleyball, cross country, basketball, tennis, sporting clays, and baseball. A strong theatre department produces a musical production each fall and spring.

Eastwood Christian School strives to instruct each student to know the Truth, to lead an abundant Life, and to embrace the Calling God has placed on their lives.
