GRAMMAR SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

Art

First through fifth grade ECS students will learn the grammar of art through a weekly art class. In it, they will be exposed to the language of art through vocabulary and early skills of artistic observation. They will be challenged to develop artistic skills through work in class and will observe historic artwork to help them grasp these concepts.

Civilized Warriors

Civilized Warriors: A Guide for Living Well Together

Civilized Warriors is an etiquette class developed specifically for Eastwood Christian Grammar School's second through fifth grades. This nine-week course instructs students in a proper understanding of how each human fits into God's grand design and how each one is to submit to his Lordship. We explore ways to live out this knowledge in light of traditional Western values in alignment with God's Word. Our students are then equipped to live out their lives and work in their vocations in truth, no matter what the future holds. In the short term, this instruction aids in the peace of our families' homes, our Grammar School, and assists with transitioning into adolescence and adulthood in our Logic and Rhetoric Schools. Each lesson relates that particular area of etiquette to the fruit of the Spirit, namely respect, kindness, self-control, compassion, and humility. Scripture is central in every session. Topics covered: making introductions, table manners, how to act in public, handling your body in space and as a lady or gentleman, social events, and the art of conversation.

Music

Eastwood’s Grammar School music enrichment program recognizes the value of musical artistic expression and fosters a love of music throughout the school day.  The enrichment program teaches students about great composers, introducing them to the life stories and music of many talented men and women. Students receive a foundation in the grammar of music theory as they learn to read notes, understand the importance of each note’s value, and study music composition.  They also experience the joy of singing, body percussion, games, movement, and playing musical instruments.

Warrior Fit

Caring for our bodies is an essential part of being a strong warrior.  Eastwood’s Warrior Fit program helps first through sixth grade students develop physical strength through exercise, structured playtime, and team building activities. Students learn that being a warrior involves more than finishing first in a race. It is learning to run the race set before them with endurance and purpose.
